Ask a family for one of the main reasons they moved to Bainbridge Island and you will repeatedly hear, 'For the schools'. The Bainbridge Island School District is ranked #2 in Washington for Best Teachers and #5 for Best School District, rating an A+ for teachers and college readiness with an A in academics (2018 survey data from Niche).
If you're comparing the island's public schools to Seattle Area schools, Bainbridge is still ranked#2 for Best Teachers.
There are three elementary schools, grades K through 4, located in the south, center, and north ends of the island. Grades 5 and 6 are at Sakai Intermediate School. Woodward Middle School covers grades 7 and 8, then it’s on to Bainbridge Island High School.
Private education choices are also available with Montessori and Waldorf schools, and Island School and Hyla Middle School. Christian and Catholic education is provided at Carden Country School and St. Cecilia.
